(Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: GORE BIKE WEAR Men's Countdown As Jacket (Apparel) At first I thought the removable sleeve concept was pretty dumb (validated by trying some lower quality brands with this concept), but then I tried the Gore Phantom and this one and the Alp-X - all with removable sleeves. In fact it works out really well on all three, although the Phantom is different (see review of that).
I am getting two Countdowns (as for some reason Amazon had a temporary price for yellow and for red ($76 for red in M!!!!) and Phantom for cold and dry.
Of the Phantom, the Alp-X and the Countdown, the Phantom is completely different. The other two are similar. but I believe the Alp-X is supposed to be of more breathable material. The Alp-X does not have covered zippers on the arms like the Countdown, which goes along with the Countdown being more on the water proof side with a slight drop in breathability when zipped up.
I can wear this as a vest, and with it un-zipped it really hardly feels like it is there at all and you get great... Read more

I've wear this jacket some since the outside temp has dropped some, it keeps me warm wearing a t-shirt beneath it. Lots of compliments on how stylish it looks, the red is very visible to drivers on the road. That was a major concern of mine since the days are shorter. Never become really sweaty, it breathes well. Its not waterproof, but that didn't bother me since I have rain gear. The sleeves come off which is nice for the ride home in the afternoon when it warms up outside. The price is good too.

The sleeves can be unzipped and it produces a handy vest which I use also in summer. Quality is excellent. The purchase price is on the higher which made me look for alternatives. But compared to the GORE Countdown AS Jacket, they all were bulkier, heavier and not as comfortable. Sleeves are long enough, the jacked has a very good fit and does not flap during fast downhills.
