4.0 out of 5 stars Nice helmet, August 16, 2010
By
Esteban (Norristown, PA United States) - See all my reviews
I've used helmets from Giro and Bell for years. I've used cheaper 40.00 models and expensive 200.00 models. They've all worked fine, and frankly, I couldn't really tell too much of a difference between them except for a few more vents and a mild weight difference that didn't affect me one way or the other. Luckily never crashed to test them in that respect, but they all have to meet the same govt. standards, so I assume they're all pretty much the same in terms of protection. All things being equal, the only things I'm looking for in a helmet is one that doesn't look overly ridiculous on my large head and is reasonably priced. I've literally tried every model the other companies have to offer for road cyclists. They all looked huge - and bad. REALLY mushroom-head bad. This one, however, has a lower profile when it sits on your head, and it is the only one I ever found that actually looked markedly better being worn than the competition. It feels comfortable and it is very well... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Spiderlock Works!, April 7, 2011
Road bike apparel prices put me off. This helmet is priced right though. I honestly don't know what more I am getting when comparing to a $200 helmet. I do like the shape of the Specialized helmet more though since it's more compact.

The Spiderlock system is great. I loosen before putting the helmet on then tighten after putting it on. The helmet then securely raps around my head. The comfort and secure feeling is second to none compared to all the helmets I've tested. This is all done by simply twisting a little knob at the back of the helmet.

I always bike with a Headsweat bandana as my head gets cold as well as sweat easily (I am a hot house flower). I can adjust the level of ventilation when using the bandana in conjunction with the Spiderlock. If I am going down hill and it starts to get cold, I can tighten the helmet on the run, and the helmet holds tighter and also decreases ventilation to my head. And, when I climb and get hot, I loosen the... Read more
