Cheap, Heavy, Effective, April 8, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mavic 2011 Cosmic Elite Road Bike - Front Clincher Wheel - 11210810 (Misc.) This is a decent flat-land wheel, and at a good price. It's heavy, the decals are pretty crap, and it understeers, so you'll come out of turns wide, but it's noticeably faster above 17mph - especially when holding top speed sprinting to break away. The bearings roll quite well, and braking is very good.
It's less affected by cross-winds than I anticipated, probably due to the low spoke count(20) and radial lacing. Sudden gusts can still upset the bike, and that can be dangerous if you're holding a tight line in a turn, or drafting in a paceline.
I've put a little over 500 miles on mine, and for the relatively flat riding along the American River on the Parkway trail, it's a nice wheel. It's not good for sharp turns, especially when the runout area is rough or undulating. It's too heavy and dead to make a good climbing wheel, and not strong enough to inspire confidence at downhill speeds.
If you weigh less than 145lbs, the wheel will last 15,000 miles... Read more
